Gordon Baker from the Derpartment for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy gives us an update on the Governments’ Industrial Strategy Green Paper.
Today the Government publishes its Industrial Strategy Green Paper that builds on the UK’s strengths and prepares us for the years ahead. The Strategy aims to deliver an economy that works for everyone; an economy that delivers good, skilled, well-paid jobs; and an economy that creates the conditions for competitive, world-leading businesses to prosper and grow right across the UK. It drives thinking across the whole of Government and spreads the benefits of economic success across the whole of the country.
Making a success of the Strategy involves all sectors of the economy. Today is the beginning of a dialogue to develop delivery of the Strategy. In particular there is an opportunity for sectors to work with Government to define a ‘sector deal’. Sector deals involve industry putting together a clear proposal to boost the productivity of a sector, and setting out detailed plans to seize opportunities and address key challenges. The plans should also indicate how Government can support the future success of the sector. We would like to encourage you to think about how a ‘sector deal’ approach could apply to the drone industry, and consider the means necessary to convene thoughts amongst leaders in the industry to present an inclusive deal. BEIS colleagues are on hand to answer questions and guide you through the process.
The full text of the Industrial Strategy Green Paper can be found at this link and I have attached a copy of the Industrial Strategy Ten Pillars for ease of reference. The consultation period runs for 12 weeks, closing on 17 April. I’d advise reading it and contributing in the areas you feel passionate about.
